Role Overview
The Editorial Assistant will support key editorial processes, from proofreading and manuscript prep to author communications and project coordination. This is a vital supporting role in our creative ecosystem, ideal for someone who is meticulous, motivated, and excited to work in the world of books.
Key Responsibilities
• Proofread and copyedit manuscripts, marketing copy, and digital content
• Assist with editorial workflow tracking and content management
• Coordinate with authors to gather bios, images, synopses, and permissions
• Prepare editorial reports and internal reviews
• Maintain consistency with our house style and quality standards
• Upload metadata and manage author/book information across publishing platforms
• Provide general editorial support to the Publishing Director and wider team
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
• Excellent written English and a strong grasp of grammar and spelling
• Detail-oriented with strong proofreading skills
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
• Comfortable with online tools like Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and email platforms
• Eagerness to grow in the publishing field
Desirable:
• Previous editorial or publishing experience (including internships or freelance)
• Familiarity with style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style)
• Experience using collaboration tools
• A passion for African literature, Christian thought, or transformational nonfiction
