Africa’s Publishing Industry: Our Responsibility, Our Future

Africa’s Publishing Industry: Our Responsibility, Our Future

For far too long, Africa has looked outward for solutions to its problems. We wait for international funding, depend on foreign validation, and hope for external interventions. But who better understands Africa’s challenges than Africans themselves? And who is better positioned to solve them than we are?

The publishing industry is no exception.

  • We face distribution bottlenecks that make it easier to import books than to sell those written by our own.
  • Editorial and production standards remain inconsistent, often due to fragmented infrastructure.
  • Writers struggle for visibility in global markets, while our own platforms remain underdeveloped.

Yet, the talent, the creativity, and the solutions already exist within Africa. The real question is: Do we have the will to build?

This Saturday, 22 February, at 6:30 PM GMT / 7:30 PM WAT, we are bringing together African writers, publishers, and industry stakeholders for the African Writers Roundtable—a bold step towards designing practical solutions by Africans, for Africa.

This is our moment. We have the capacity to diagnose the problems, create the solutions, and implement them with conviction. Nothing is impossible to those who dare!
